01Sequence
Choose the indoor priority first
If Projeto Tamar is essential, confirm its current visiting hours and scheduled activities, then fit the beach and meal around it. Keep the exposed coastal walk optional. This creates a complete day even if wind or sea conditions change, without trying to replace one missed stop with several distant attractions.
02Sea
Use current local guidance
Follow lifeguard flags, signs and advice for the place you intend to use. The channel, main beach, Prainha and rocky pools are different environments. A good swimming spot in one set of conditions may be unsuitable in another, and the presence of other people in the water is not enough to establish a safe choice.
03Water quality
Check the relevant sampling point
Consult IMA’s current bathing-water information when swimming is planned, using the exact location rather than a broad neighborhood name. Water-quality reporting and physical sea conditions answer different questions; both matter. After rain or unsettled weather, seek current advice rather than relying on an older report or a previous visit.
04Access
Ask about bags, steps and parking
Confirm how you reach your accommodation from the vehicle drop-off point. Channel crossings and Prainha-side lanes can involve carrying luggage through narrow or uneven sections. If step-free access is important, ask for a precise route description before booking. Keep arrival arrangements practical, especially after a long flight.
05Footwear
Pack for more than sand
Beach footwear alone may not suit the lanes and coastal path. Bring shoes with appropriate grip, water and sun protection, and keep exposed walks within your group’s ability. Choose shorter routes when heat, slippery surfaces or fatigue make the longer plan less appealing. There is enough in the village for a full visit without a demanding walk.
06Connections
Keep the east-island days together
Pair Barra with a separate Lagoa da Conceição outing, allowing for road traffic between them. Avoid combining the full day here with the distant north or south of the island. A stay with fewer cross-island transfers gives you more time for the beach, local food and the changing atmosphere around the channel.
