01Time
Three or four nights is a start.
Allow an arrival day, a local beach day and a longer outing before moving on. Add time if forest walks or more remote beaches are central to the trip. A one-night visit can leave the ferry and road connections doing most of the work.
02Ferry
Count the queue and onward road.
The São Sebastião–Ilhabela crossing carries vehicles and foot passengers. Check the official service information and any reservation option relevant to your vehicle. The sailing itself is only one part of the arrival; queues and the drive to your base need their own allowance.
03Getting around
Decide whether you need a car.
A car can help with a road-served beach stay, but parking and ferry arrangements add considerations. If arriving on foot, confirm your onward transfer and local transport. Check current island bus and water-transport schedules for the route you actually plan to use.
04Weather
Leave the remote day flexible.
Wind, rain and sea conditions can alter a boat outing or park-road access. Book with a clear cancellation or rescheduling policy and keep a local alternative. Avoid making a remote outing your only available activity on the morning of departure.
05Comfort
Prepare for the setting.
Ask your accommodation about screens, outdoor areas and the beach approach. Bring appropriate insect protection and follow its label, along with footwear suited to the outings you book. Forest tracks, sand and hillside rooms have different access demands from the town’s streets.
06Departure
Protect the next connection.
Leave a generous margin before an onward airport journey or another fixed booking. Confirm current ferry conditions before departing your accommodation. If driving a rental, ask about parking, any current municipal vehicle charges and who handles payment.
